Thomas C. "Buddy" Styers

Col. Thomas C. "Buddy" Styers is the executive director of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority, which oversaw the redevelopment of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Under his leadership, the authority spearheaded The Market Common, a 121-acre mixed-use development featuring more than 380,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and 195 rental apartments. Styers has served as president of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and held roles with the Erskine College Alumni Association board, the Presbyterian College board of Visitors and the Partners Economic Development Corp. He also served on the Santee Cooper Customer Advisory Council. In 2024, Styers was awarded the Order of the Palmetto. He served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1992 with the rank of colonel.
